Description

Co-Designing Atelier Practices is a customized, online action-research journey for school teams, educators, art centers, and creative reuse centers who want to cultivate an atelier culture grounded in expressive languages and material exploration.

This program is a collaborative, highly tailored mentorship that meets your organization within its real context, space, and goals – moving beyond standard lectures to build meaningful, lasting practices together.

Possible Focus Areas for Your Team

Depending on your current priorities and questions, our collaborative journey can be designed around goals such as:

  • Rethinking the Atelier Space & Environment: Re-evaluating physical setups, display of materials, and classroom corners so that space acts as an active interlocutor rather than static decor.
  • Exploring the Grammar of Materials: Deepening the team’s understanding of non-structured, natural, and industrial waste materials (creative reuse), discovering their expressive and cognitive potential through direct hands-on research.
  • Transforming the Adult Posture: Shifting from performative expectations and fixed results toward active listening, observation, and meaningful ways to sustain and relaunch ongoing processes.
  • Redesigning How Materials Are Offered: Moving away from standard, task-oriented setups to create engaging invitations to explore that foster curiosity, problem-solving, and autonomy.
  • Developing a Shared Team Language: Aligning colleagues around a common vision of the creative process, bridging individual approaches into a cohesive, intentional practice across your setting.

How the Journey Works

True transformation cannot be imported from the outside; it grows through direct practice, reflection, and dialogue tailored to your context. Because there are no two identical pathways, every journey is fully co-designed around your setting’s physical space, materials, and specific goals:

  • Diagnostic & Co-Design: The process begins with 2 individual meetings (75 mins each) with the team leader or director. In the first session, we map your context, space, and specific challenges. Following this session, I formulate a custom, tailored roadmap for your setting, which we then review and refine together in the second meeting before involving the wider team.
  • Group Action Research: A series of 5 interactive online sessions (90 mins each) with your core team. Between meetings, your team engages in practical, context-specific micro-tasks (such as experimenting with a material, testing space setups, or observing interactions with a new lens).
  • Continuous Iterative Loop: Prior to each group meeting, your team submits brief qualitative notes, photos, or open questions gathered during daily work. This real material forms the direct foundation for our next live session.

Practical Details

  • Format: 100% Online via live Zoom sessions.
  • Structure: 7 total meetings — 2 diagnostic sessions with the leader (75 mins each) + 5 group action-research sessions (90 mins each). Total of 10 live contact hours, plus asynchronous roadmap formulation and between-session material analysis.
  • Core Group Size: Limited to a maximum of 10 active participants per live session to preserve an intimate, interactive, and dialogue-driven atmosphere.
  • Extended Team Access & Recordings: Live sessions are recorded and uploaded to a private cloud folder after each meeting. This allows non-attending staff and the broader team to follow along, reflect, and stay aligned throughout the journey and for up to 60 days after its completion.
